I began learning the piano over 30 years ago, coming into contact with a number of teachers during my years of tuition. I systematically worked through the ABRSM grades (both practical and theory) before then studying for a degree in Music at Christchurch University, Canterbury. It was during this time I began my career teaching at a local Arts College, but soon after took on my own students as a private tutor.
Today I teach from my own practise room, as well as travelling to students homes. I also give educational advice to both children and adults relating to musical curriculum and performance. My teaching philosophy is simply that I never teach the same lesson twice; each student learns, adapts and practises at their own pace - I aim to ensure that my students reach their potential and enjoy getting there!
I was born and raised in Moldova, and was taught a strict classical syllabus of piano tuition. I came to the UK in 2012, where Matt continued my training through the ABRSM Board. Having previously taught in alternating disciplines, I decided that I would continue teaching in the UK. Today I teach a majority of younger students who are looking to try something new, and have fun learning a musical instrument.
It is important to make learning as much fun as possible for children, while maintaining a sense of purpose and achievement. The ABRSM Prep Test is a great way for students to undertake their first music exam to experience a real sense of attainment - at any age!
I also speak fluent Russian, and am therefore able to offer lessons to those who prefer a Russian-speaking Piano teacher.
